Erik Bennink - Biography

Back to Gallery

Erik has been drawing and painting for over 40 years as a means to share his ideas, reactions, moods and personal story. He graduated from the Illustration and Graphic Design program at Sheridan College, Ontario. Major influences are the American abstract expressionists Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell and Jackson Pollock, as well as realist painters Andrew Wyeth and Alex Colville.

In his recent abstract works he allows colours to collide and juxtapose while maintaining direction and control where necessary. To achieve the desired results he has used sticks, garden tools, kitchen utensils, broken glass and other found materials.

Erik sees each painting as an exciting adventure challenged by the unfolding events that are revealed during the creation of each work.

He has had several solo exhibitions and has participated in group shows.
